Getting Started with ThecontentsSafe - Home Inventory Software
  • Click on Activate Software which can be found on the welcome page (top left corner) or on the Help menu.
  • Unlocking your copy – Click on ‘Purchase Product key online’ which will link you to our ‘Buy’ the product now page on the website or alternatively call us on 0870 224 7233 and purchase your Product Key.
  • Then enter your User name and Product Key in the box shown and you will have full use of ThecontentsSafe software.

Starting your inventory
Click on Items Located in the lower left hand corner of your screen, then begin to enter details of your home contents (make sure your application is in detail view – tab at the bottom of the page).

Uploading photos is easy, simply select the (+) and select your photo. This can also be used for scanned images perfect for mortgage and insurance policies on the documents section.

HINT: If you are having problems knowing what to put in each field i.e. location. Scroll your mouse pointer over the corresponding box to enable a hint. See above.

Editing the following fields:
Categories, Locations, Beneficiaries and Purchased From lists.
  • Left click on the link below each field which will bring up the above screen.
  • Simply select the (+) icon and this will create an empty field for you to edit.
  • Enter the required data and then click close.
  • Then select the correct category, Location, Beneficiary or Purchased from.
HINT: To enter items more efficiently use the Tab key to switch to and from fields then enter a Letter to display the list of options in the above edited fields. For example, on Category press the letter E on your keyboard to select Electrical.

Loading your Media Inventory
Ideal for CDs, Books, DVDs, Videos, LPs, Minidiscs, Software etc…
  • To add items either click add new item or enter details then click next record
  • Fill in the required fields
  • Repeat until finished or satisfied

Loading your Document Inventory
Great for Mortgage Documents, Insurance, Passport and Driving Licenses, Stocks and Shares etc…

  • Click on the Documents section.
  • Enter document details, following same advice for entering company details as location beneficiary
  • Continue to add as many documents as you feel comfortable with
HELP: We recommend that documents are added to aid you in a loss situation, whether it be fire flood or burglary or even if you just lose them. Then one quick call to us and all details of who to call and what you have lost will be with you within 48 Hours.

Creating a Report
  • Click on the Reports button in the lower left hand corner. (In this instance we are going to use an example of a Summary Report)
  • At the top of the screen select which category you would like to view then select by which order you prefer (by cost, weight etc..) By leaving the field blank this will select all items and put them in location order.
  • You will now see a report of all your items. If you now scroll down to the last page. Totals of weight, price and dimension will be shown.
  • Now, by clicking on the printer icon in the top left hand corner you will be able to print the current report.
  • Repeat the above steps for any of the reports featured in our software.
Hint: By allowing all items to be displayed within a report accurate totals of Weight (ideal for shipping), Price (great for contents insurance) and Dimensions (perfect for moving house – allocate a correct size moving vehicle) will be shown.

Uploading your inventory for safe keeping
  • Click file then select Send to ThecontentsSafe
  • Follow the steps shown on screen.
  • Allow our software to send to a copy of your inventory to us (remember your first year storage is free).
Tip: If your software seems to be “not responding”, don’t worry, it is selecting the best way to upload your inventory to us via the internet.

Remember: Your uploaded inventory is fully encrypted and does not contain your name or address.

Password Protecting your Home Inventory
Ideal for security purposes.
  • Go to the Welcome Screen then click on Protect With Password which can be found on the left of the screen.
  • Type your password, then retype your password.
  • Click OK.
Tip: Ensure the password is one that you will remember and is no shorter than 3 characters.



Searching for an Item view full size

Searching for an Item
  • In either the Items, Media or Documents categories select Search for Items which can be found on the left hand side of the screen
  • Enter a phrase or part phrase that is relative to a particular item, for example, Television.
  • Click Find Next until desired item is found.
  • Click Close.
Hint: If you are searching for items within List view, repeat the above until desired is found then either double click on this item or select change this item from the section on the left of the screen.

Backing up your Inventory
  • Select the File Menu, then select Backup to File
  • Select the location you would like to save it to
  • Type in a File Name (i.e. My House)
  • Click Save and this will compress and save your inventory


Restoring a Backup view full size

Restoring a Backup
  • Select the File Menu then Select Restore backup
  • Locate your backup zip file that you have saved (i.e. My House)
  • Click Open, this will show another box allowing you to overwrite all items in your inventory. Only do this is you are certain that you want to restore this backup.
Help: The restore function on our software is a key aspect because if you have lost your information, give us a call and you will be able to retrieve the inventory you have sent to us.

WARNING: Allowing others to use your unique Username and Product Key, also allows them to upload their inventory to us, the consequence being YOUR UPLOADED INVENTORY WILL BE OVERWRITTEN AND REPLACED.

So please do not let anyone else see your unique Username or Activation key.
